It’s NRHA Ancillary Action and Girl Power Wednesday in Kreuth

July 31, 2019

Kreuth, July 31 — Provided by Simona Diale — The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Derby welcomed the NRHA Intermediate Open, Limited Open, Intermediate Non Pro, and Limited Non Pro ancillary classes today with a truly international group of riders performing.

Tal Paz

It was all about Israel and Switzerland in the €800-added Intermediate Open and €400-added Limited Open classes with Tal Paz of Israel riding One Shining Dream (NRHA Five Million Dollar Sire Magnum Chic Dream x Shining Sienna) for owner Swiss Larissa Rizzi riding to top honors with a 212. “I showed my horse at the NRHA Germany Breeders Derby but we didn’t make the finals and the same happened here in the Euro Derby Open,” said the Israeli professional. “My run today was way better and managed to fix the bobbles we had in the go round. Our circles were the best maneuvers, where he really looked good, and the spins were also pretty good. In two weeks’ time, I plan to show him in the Swiss Derby in Mooslargue, and after that, we will see, after all he is still young… I would like to thank the owner Larissa [Rizzi] for trusting me with this horse and the whole team behind me back home.”

French Adeline Caron rode her own Ruff Gun (NRHA Eleven Million Dollar Sire Gunner x A Ruf Mistress) to reserve honors with a 210.5. Taking the second spot in the Limited Open with a 211.5 was Germany’s Niklas Ludwig atop Shine N Step (NRHA Ten Million Dollar Sire Wimpys Little Step x Shiney Sparks) owned by Oliver Schliesser.

Non Pro Action

NRHA Intermediate Non Pro

Tabitha Sternberg Allen

Riding to the winner’s circle in the Intermediate Non Pro with a 211.5 score was Tabitha Sternberg Allen aboard FS Gunner Got Lucky (NRHA Ten Million Dollar Sire Gunner x My Lucky Moonstone) owned by her mother, Francesca Sternberg. “My horse is 8-years old and I’ve had him for the past two years. I bought him in the States, showed him there, and when I started university, we brought him over to England and I’ve shown him in Europe since then,” said the talented young rider from Great Britain. “In the States, I showed him at the NRBC where we made the Level 2 and 1 finals and also in Las Vegas at the High Roller Reining Classic Derby where we won the Limited Non Pro. In Europe, this is our third show in a row now: I showed him at the FEI Young Riders World Reining Championship and made the Individual Finals. We then went to Denmark to show in the NRHA European Affiliate Championship and we just cruised around there. I showed him in the Derby here where we had a really good run, but we had one stop where we crossed the middle line — which was not expected — and so we got a zero which is why I’m in this class. At least we redeemed ourselves! He was really good during my run today, stayed with me the whole way and we didn’t have any bobbles, so I was really happy. What makes me even happier is that he really struggled with his lead changes from small slow to fast circles when we first got him and today he did both of them perfect and that was an achievement. I ride with my dad, Doug Allen and I would like to take this opportunity to thank my parents, my brother [George] for being supportive, and our groom, Jolie, who has been fantastic this week.” Future plans for FS Gunner Got Lucky include a well-deserved rest to get ready for either Equita Lyon or Verona later in the year.

Julia Gaupmann-Lechner of Austria rode Guns Still Smokin (NRHA Ten Million Dollar Gunner x Scoot Lil Bo) to second place, after performing to a 210, for owner LG Quarter Horses.

Limited Non Pro

Nadja Hammer

With a 211 score, Nadja Hammer of Austria rode Starlit Spook (NRHA Five Million Dollar Sire Smart Spook x Gay Light Star) owned by her husband Wolfgang Hammer to first place honors in the Limited Non Pro. “My husband and I purchased this horse as a 2-year-old, he’s now 8 and has been with us since we got him,” said Nadja following her win. My husband showed him successfully until last year and then I took over the reins. I feel good about my run today, especially our left circles which were really good for me and probably our best maneuver. I’m not sure about future shows with ‘Starlit,’ since he is out of aged classes, but maybe we will show in some ancillary classes. I am really happy with how things went today and I would like to thank my husband, our trainer Tomas Martinek, and, of course, the whole Hammerhoff team!”

Tying for second place honors with a 208.5 was Germany’s Manuela Blechinger riding MS Sesolita Fury (Linas Little Fury x Nu Rum To Smoke), owned by Thomas Blechinger, and Florian Köhler aboard his own (Betta Be Toughenough x Hesa San Jo x HC Whos My Dad).

Ann Fonck takes the NRHA Open Pre Futurity title, Wolfgang Hammer sweeps the Non Pro Pre Futurity

Kreuth, July 30 — Provided by Simona Diale —All finalists of the ninth edition of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Derby — open to 5-6-7-8-year-old horses enrolled in the NRHA Nomination Program — were determined following the Open Derby Consolation held on the third day of great reining in Kreuth.

Ann Fonck

Along with a full-slate of NRHA ancillary classes, this year’s edition of the Euro Derby also offers the €12.000-added NRHA 4-year-old Mid Summer Futurity and the €5.000-added NRHA 3-year-old Pre Futurity. The latter was held following the Open Consolation and, taking the title in the Open Level (L)4 Championship was NRHA’s newest Million Dollar Rider Ann Fonck of Belgium with Lil Trouble Spook owned by Ingrid Vermeiren/Codan NV between the reins. “It’s really special for me to ride this horse and see him do so well here because we own his mama, we bred him and we started him ourselves,” said Fonck about her mount by NRHA Five Million Dollar Sire Smart Spook out of Lil Trouble Miss. “Ingrid [Vermeiren] purchased him at the beginning of this year and I am very grateful to her for trusting our program and leaving him in training with us.”

Bastien Bourgeois

Taking the Pre Futurity L2 Open Championship was French Bastien Bourgeois aboard Colonel Barbee Dream (Colonels Shining Gun x Barbee Top Dream) owned by Manuela Masson. “We purchased this horse as a weanling and he’s been with me since,” said an enthused Bourgois. “He’s always been really nice to train, today was his first time in the show arena and I could not be any more pleased with him — he was easy and thought he was at home!”

Wolfgang Hammer

Wolfgang Hammer’s winning streak this year moves on as he went on to claim both the Pre Futurity L4 and L2 Non Pro titles, this time riding his own Baddestchicintown (NRHA Million Dollar Sire Hollywoodstinseltown x Smart Chicody Sue). “I purchased this mare as a yearling from Tanya Jenkins in the U.S. and brought her to our place in Austria immediately after,” said Hammer. “Our trainer Tomas Martinek started and trained her and did a really good job with her…that’s the reason she is easy to ride! We wanted to try her out in the show pen, this is her first time being shown ever and she showed us that she is very talented and very good minded.”

Anna Lisec

Closing the day in Kreuth was the €1.875-added NRHA Open won by Austrian Anna Lisec riding her This Wimps So Fly (NRHA Ten Million Dollar Sire Wimpys Little Step x Fly Flashy Jac) owned by her mother Sabine Lisec. The flashy palomino boasts close to $67,000 NRHA Lifetime Earnings (LTE) as well as many prestigious titles with Anna in the saddle including the 2015 NRHA European Derby Levels 4-3-2-1 Non Pro Championships and 2017 NRHA European Derby L4 Non Pro title.

NRHA Ancillary action will fill the day on Wednesday with the Intermediate Non Pro, Limited Non Pro, Intermediate Open and Limited Open riders vying for the winner’s circle.
