Italy to host the 2016 NRHA European Derby & Pre Futurity

June 13, 2016

For Immediate Release – At the May 2016 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Board of Directors meeting, the board was presented with a proposal brought forward by Gerd Wilhelm (Germany), Roberto Coughi (Italy) and Francois Zurcher (Switzerland/France) to create a platform organization – the European Federation of Reining Associations (EFRA) – for all NRHA European Affiliates.

The board approved to move forward in creating a Memo of Understanding followed by a contractual agreement to set the parameters and expectations of the arrangement with the European Federation of Reining Associations (EFRA). NRHA and the above listed ERFA representatives are working toward that end.

“Although NRHA is very hopeful and optimistic about the long-term results of this concept, unfortunately it has caused a sudden change in plans regarding the 2016 NRHA European Derby,” commented NRHA Commissioner Gary Carpenter. “We were excited about possibilities of working with the AMERICANA. They have been very gracious in working with us, and we appreciate their cooperation and professionalism.”

Considering the above changes, the 2016 NRHA European Derby & Pre Futurity will now be held at the Palasturla in Manerbio, Italy, on September 19 – 24, and will be managed by the Italian Reining Horse Association (IRHA).

“Following the agreement between the NRHA and the ERFA, moving forward, the NRHA European Derby will be held in Italy in conjunction with the IRHA Derby,” said Roberto Cuoghi. “For this reason, and because of the sudden changes in plans, we felt it was appropriate to try to host the European Derby in Italy this year as well and reached an agreement to host the event in Manerbio. We are working very hard to make this event as successful as it has always been and to further promoting the sport of Reining in Europe in years to come.”

New location announced for 2016 NRHA European Derby & Pre-Futurity

March 3, 2016

Germany will be the new location for the next National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Derby and Pre-Futurity, scheduled for September 5 – 11, 2016.

Oklahoma City, Okla., March 1, 2016 – The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) is proud to announce a new location for the 2016 European Derby and Pre-Futurity offering more than €124,000-added money. The sixth edition of this prestigious event will take place at the Messezentum Fairgrounds in Augsburg, Germany, the venue where the renowned ‘Americana’ is hosted every two years.

The NRHA event will be held September 5-11, 2016 in conjunction with the European Reining Cow Horse Association (ERCHA) Futurity and Nations Cup, which is approved by the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA).

“We are so grateful for the support of the Italian reining horse community and the wonderful foundation they laid for this event,” offers Gary Carpenter, NRHA Commissioner. “Now we enter an exceptional new chapter at a more central location. The huge benefit here is that every other year we can showcase our sport in front of crowds the size of which we have only dreamed, and thereby promote reining to so many more people.”

A bonus to this location change comes with a connection to the ‘Americana’ event (to be held next in 2017), for this promises to bring even more recognition to the sport of reining in Europe in the future.  Held since 1986 – and thanks to the collaboration of the AFAG Team, organizers of the shows and exhibitions held in Augsburg, and the Ready Steady Show Management Team – ‘Americana’ has become the biggest show dedicated to western riding in Europe. Last year alone, the event attracted close to 55,000 visitors and more than 280 vendors, as well as media attention worldwide.

“We are very excited and honored to be able to collaborate with the National Reining Horse Association in the production of this great show in 2016,” state Sandra Quade and Joachim Bochmann, Ready Steady Show managers.  “We are certain that it will be a great success and that this will be a boost for the sport of reining in Europe, particularly considering that, in 2017, plans include that the European Derby & Pre-Futurity be held during the Americana where, on finals night alone, over 5,000 spectators pay their way to cheer their favorite reiners!”

The young French rider had left her mark at the NRHA European Affiliate Championship, where they took the championship in the Youth 13 & Under title, and represented France at the 2014 WEG in Caen with Ann Sophie Guerriero. The talented 7-year-old mare by Ricochet Rooster and out of Ms Sanditch Whiz was thrilled with her two titles: “I just love my mare who I’ve had since the beginning of this year,” said Marie. “This evening she felt really good and I knew that we could do well, even though you cannot afford to ever be distracted when you’re showing!   I would like to thank my parents for giving me this opportunity and my trainer, Ann Sophie Guerriero, who has always believed in me and my mare.”

The fifth edition of the NRHA European Derby & Pre Futurity will come to a close tomorrow. Europe’s most successful Derby, open to 4-5-6 and 7-year-old horses, will offer the NRHA Youth, Limited and Intermediate Open classes as well as the NRHA Non Pro class.

Anna Lisec and Gotalotta Cash sweep the European Non Pro Pre Futurity

September 16, Manerbio – Provided by Simona Diale – The first champions were crowned today in Manerbio, Italy, following the NRHA European Non Pro Pre Futurity.

Held during the NRHA (National Reining Horse Association) European Derby, the Non Pro Pre Futurity, open to 3-year-old horses, saw Anna Lisec and Gotalotta Cash, owned by Sabine Lisec, take top honors in both the Level 4 and Level 2 divisions. Aboard the pretty mare by Big Chex To Cash and out of Gotta Lotta Grace (by Topsail Whiz), the young Austrian rider posted a 210. “I truly and honestly did not expect to win so this is twice as special,” said Anna. “Especially sweet is the fact that we’ve had her ever since she was 2. My step-father, Chuck Klipfel, rode her and the reins passed on to me in June this year. I’ve been riding and training her since, so I’m pretty proud of her!”

The reserve championship in the Level 4, a half a point behind the winners, went to Italy’s Manuel Bonzano and Dealin The Cash – yet another mare by Big Chex To Cash, but out of Raise The Dealer (by Dealin Dirty), owned by 23 QH Azienda Agricola S.S and bred by Manuel Bonzano. “This is the very first show for my mare and I’m really happy with the way she went and with the result,” said the past NRHA Non Pro World Champion.

In the Level 2 division taking the co-reserve championship was Fabio Colantoni with BF Feona In Whiz (RS Great Jac Feona x Pretty Bubbles Whiz x Topsail Whiz) and Davina Perini riding her Dualina Hope (Dualin For Me x Hope And Surprise x ARC Sparkle Surprise). Both scored a 208.
